Stop being a passenger.
Most boat trips leave you sitting back while someone else does the sailing. Not this one. From the moment we clear the harbour, the boat is in your hands — you hoist the mainsail, you take the wheel, you hold the course along the Cascais coast.
Your skipper is beside you the whole time, explaining each move as it happens: how to read the wind, when to turn, how to bring the boat alongside on the way back in. There is no classroom and no set programme. The morning shapes itself around the wind of the day and around how far you want to push it.
By the time you step ashore you will have properly sailed a yacht — not watched one being sailed. You will leave with a photograph at the helm and a card marking the furthest point you reached.
It is not a course and we do not issue certificates. What we hand you is the wheel.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any sailing experience?
None at all. This experience is built for complete beginners. Your skipper shows you everything as you go, and stays within reach the whole time.
Is this a sailing course? Will I get a certificate?
No. Take the Helm is a sailing experience, not nautical training, and we do not issue certificates or qualifications. It is about the feeling of sailing the boat yourself, not about paperwork.
Will I actually steer, or just watch?
You will steer for most of the trip, hoist the mainsail and take part in the manoeuvres. That is the whole point of this experience.
Is the boat private?
Always. Every experience is booked exclusively for your group. There are no shared departures.
What should I bring?
Light-soled shoes, a windproof jacket and sun protection. We provide foul-weather gear if the day calls for it.
What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
Safety comes first. If conditions do not allow us to sail, we reschedule at no cost. We watch the forecast closely and will be in touch in good time.
